Flip Turn Practice
A flip turn, also known as a tumble turn, is a technique used in swimming to quickly change direction at the end of a pool without losing momentum. Here's a step-by-step guide to performing a flip turn in freestyle swimming.
Steps to Perform a Flip Turn
- Approach the Wall: Swim towards the wall, maintaining your normal freestyle stroke. As you get close, take your last breath and keep your head down.
- Initiate the Flip: When you see the black "T" on the pool floor, take one or two more strokes.
- Tuck and roll: Tuck your chin to your chest and bring your hands to your sides.Tuck your knees tightly to your chest and perform a somersault.
- Push Off the Wall: As your feet touch the wall, extend your legs and push off forcefully. Streamline your body by bringing your arms overhead and squeezing your biceps to your ears.
- Streamline and Breakout: Glide underwater in a streamlined position. Begin your dolphin kicks and transition into your freestyle stroke as you break the surface.
